C.B.S man charged with trafficking weapons in relation to Paradise case

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has made two arrests in the case of an alleged abduction and robbery with a firearm in Paradise.

Justin Jennings and Michael Stacey appeared in St. John's provincial court Friday afternoon on a number of charges relating to the incident.

Police received a call at 12:03 a.m. Friday that a man was forced into a vehicle and then assaulted on Topsail Road.

RNC have not said where the man was taken, adding that he was not picked up from the side of the road.

The 27-year-old man was assaulted in the vehicle, then was taken to a home where he was threatened and assaulted some more, the RNC said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Officers located the suspect vehicle with the alleged abductor and the victim inside.

2nd suspect flees from police, hits cruisers

One man was arrested and charged at the scene with forcible confinement and multiple breaches of court orders.

Then, around 10 a.m., a second suspect attempted to evade police by fleeing in a vehicle, damaging several police cruisers in the process.

The second man was eventually caught and charged with robbery, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, threats, pointing a firearm and several breaches of court orders.

However, when Stacey and Jennings appeared in provincial court they faced fewer charges.

Jennings, 30, is charged with robbery. Stacey, 38, is charged with robbery, forcible confinement and four breaches. It's possible other charges could be laid in the future.

Police said in an earlier news released that victim knew who attacked him.

He was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

They are scheduled for a bail hearing July 7.
