People in Prince Albert, Sask., are being told to boil their water before drinking it, or even using it to brush their teeth, for the next two weeks.
A boil-water advisory was issued on Friday because of problems at the local water treatment plant. A faulty valve caused waste water to enter the water reservoir.
The faulty valve has since been replaced and water tests for bacteria have come back negative, city officials said Monday.
Officials added that more tests are being conducted, so the boil-water advisory is expected to remain in place for the next two weeks.
In the meantime, residents are being advised to boil their water for at least one minute at a rolling boil before using it.
Residents should also reduce the amount of water they use until things are back to normal, officials said.
