Regina health worker used forged doctor notes for sick leave

A Regina health region employee who received $4,700 in sick benefits based on forged doctors notes will pay back the money, the government says.

The employee has also been disciplined, according to a quarterly report on health losses released Tuesday.

It appears the worker is still employed with the Regina-Qu'Appelle Health Region. The form of discipline wasn't immediately disclosed.

Two other losses from the health care sector were disclosed on Tuesday, covering the period April 1 to June 30:

- a patient's wallet was stolen from Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region assumed responsibility for the loss because the wallet had been held for safekeeping. It paid the patient $600.

- two laptop computers, worth a total of $2,200, were stolen from Pasqua Hospital in Regina. The thefts were reported to the Regina police.

The provincial government also reported recent losses of money from its departments on Tuesday, covering the period November 2014 to April 2015:

- The Justice Ministry paid $5,467 to a contractor for hours not worked. The matter has been reported to the police.

The province didn't provide any details about the contractor, but said it's pursuing collection of the "overpayment".
