Rodney Parsons, charged for luring, signalled red flags at border

Police in St. John's say they were alerted by border agents about a man possessing suspicious images and documents.

Rodney Parsons, 49, was arrested earlier this week and charged with luring a person under the age of 18 and luring a person under the age of 16, as well as possessing a forged document, making a false document and damaging a document.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and RCMP were alerted about Parsons by the Canada Border Services Agency when he returned from a trip to the Netherlands on Dec. 23, 2014.

Parsons was checked by border agents at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Agents located several suspicious images and documents in his personal effects and the criminal investigation was forward to the CFSEU-NL.

Working with authorities in the Netherlands, police determined Parsons engaged in a relationship with a female victim from that country over a two-year period.

Parsons was arrested July 28 after the CFSEU-NL executed a search warrant at a St. John's residence.

The investigation is continuing in St. John's and Halifax.
