Rothesay fishing shacks burned in Friday night incidents

The Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department had to put out a fishing shack fire in Rothesay Friday night around 10 o'clock.

Due to the extreme winter, several fishing shacks in the region remain frozen in the ice.

Fire officials say that after speaking with local residents, they believe the fires were vandalism.

Originally, it was believed that people in the area concerned about pollution from the spring thaw decided to torch stuck shacks to solve the problem.

The fire department arrived to the Cameron Road area to find one shack completely burned and used water cans to put out a second one.

Platoon Chief Kevin Clynick says burning shacks is not safe and urges people not to do it.
