PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AFP) - Jayson Werth smacked three home runs and tied a club record with eight RBI on Friday as the Philadelphia Phillies trounced Toronto 10-3 in an interleague baseball contest.
Werth hit a three-run homer off Blue Jays rookie starter David Purcey in the second inning, belted a grand slam in the third and connected for a solo shot in the fifth.
He tied four others for the Phillies' single-game RBI mark. The most recent player from the team to notch eight was Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt on April 17, 1976.
