SOUTHPORT, England (AFP) - The nightmare continued for John Daly at the British Open on Friday as the 1995 champion carded an abysmal 89 to miss the cut at a whopping 29-over.
Daly has been battling injuries and the ravages of his own ill-disciplined lifestyle as he tries to revive his rapidly fading fortunes and he had harboured hopes that he could achieve that over the Royal Birkdale links.
But after an opening 10-over 80 played in the worst of Thursday's opening round conditions, it was an uphill battle for him to make it through to the weekend.
He started well enough and was just one over through five holes, but the wheels started to come off with a double-bogey six at the sixth.
That took him out in 40 and his back nine was a horrendous 49 including a quintuple bogey nine at the 13th.
