ANAHEIM, California (AFP) - Outfielder Bobby Abreu agreed to a two-year, 19 million-dollar deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, foregoing the free-agent market.

Abreu joined the Angels shortly before spring training and enjoyed a stellar year, batting .293 with 15 home runs, 103 RBIs and 30 stolen bases.

The two-time All-Star has driven in at least 100 runs in seven straight seasons, tied for the majors' longest active streak.

The Angels had given him a one-year contract that guaranteed five million dollars, and he earned another one million dollars based on plate appearances.

His new deal stipulates nine million dollars in salary in each of the next two seasons.

It includes a 2012 option for nine million dollars with a one million-dollar buyout.
