VANCOUVER - An independent prosecutor has been appointed to investigate allegations of improper conduct by former officials with the City of Chilliwack, including a current B.C. cabinet minister.

The Criminal Justice Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General announced lawyer Robin McFee will exam whether Solicitor General John Les made money off commercial transactions from land developers.

Les was mayor of Chilliwack at the time of the allegations.

McFee, who is a Vancouver lawyer, was appointed after a request by the RCMP in relation to their ongoing investigation.

McFee was appointed last June but the Attorney General's Ministry did not issue a news release the move until early Friday evening.
