RIGOLET, N.L. - Bombardier is conducting a voluntary safety recall on some of its Ski-Doo models after an investigation into several explosions in Labrador.
Transport Canada says owners of the snowmobiles should contact a Bombardier Recreational Products dealer.
Officials say the machines should not be used until the fuel filter assembly has been replaced with a new assembly.
Transport Canada began the investigation following reports of the first two explosions in January.
The agency and Bombardier have concluded that in cold and dry weather, electrostatic charges can accumulate in the fuel tank when the engine is left idling.
In some cases, a discharge can suddenly occur, causing an explosion in the fuel tank.
The voluntary safety recall applies to the following Ski-Doo models: Expedition TUV 600 HO SDI - 2005 (Model Number: FB5A & FB5B); Skandic SWT V-800 Yellow - 2007 (Model Number: FP7B); Skandic SWT V-800 Yellow - 2008 (Model Number: LS8B); Skandic SUV 600HO SDI Black - 2008 (Model Number: B8H).
