BRUSSELS, Belgium - An EU review of airline and other travel websites has found that one in three consumers is being ripped-off due to misleading ads.
The EU's executive office says an investigation found there were "serious and persistent consumer problems" with online ticket sales in Europe.
The EU investigation focused on how the websites offered discounts, under what conditions and at what prices.
The review was supervised by Meglena Kuneva, the EU's consumer protection commissioner, and was released Thursday.
Kuneva says consumers are being misled and she is threatening legal action if airlines and tour operators do not take action.
Regulators say 137 of 386 websites checked - or one in three - violated EU consumer laws.
