EDMONTON - About 150 residents from a hamlet north of Edmonton remain evacuated from their homes Saturday because of a wildfire.
Residents of Newbrook were taken to an emergency shelter set up in the Thorhild community centre Friday as flames, fanned by high winds, came within three kilometres of their hamlet.
The RCMP and the County of Thorhild say a big drop in the wind overnight has helped to keep the 14 square kilometre fire from getting worse.
Roads to Newbrook remained closed for safety reasons and to facilitate the movement of firefighting gear and crews.
The forecast Saturday is for hot weather without the high winds.
The Newbrook blaze is one of several fires being fought across the province.
