BEIJING - China is suspending the Olympic torch relay for three days as part of a national mourning for earthquake victims.

Beijing Olympic organizers said in a statement that the suspension starts Monday - one week after the earthquake struck.

Aside from the relay, the government is ordering all flags be flown at half-mast and a halt to all public recreation activities.

The country will observe three minutes of silence Monday at 2:28 in the afternoon - the time the quake hit, killing an estimated 50,000 people.

What's the point of this treck? As much as I think the Olympic games is a great idea, the whole flame bit just annoys me.

Yuhoo, You suggest the Canada Revenue Agency take a look at two Canadian protesters' personal income tax returns to see how they can afford such expensive travels... In my opinion, I would strongly suggest RCMP and Canadian Intelligence Service increase their budget and step up their works to find out how many hundreds or thousands of spies sent from China to Canada, manipulating the Chinese students and newly arrived immigrants. I notice tjhat two protesters are from Canada. I wonder how do they afford expensive airline tickets travelling all over the world to protest and yet made a living. I suggest the Canada Revenue Agency take a look at their personal income tax returns to see how they can afford such expensive travels. May be Government auditors can recover a good amount of lost revenue using the well known "net worth method".

Wow! No protests in the authoritative dictatorship of North Korea, where citizens are not even aware of the political issues of foreign governments and aren't allowed to express themselves politaically anyway. Big surprise; especially considering China is North Korea's only ally in the world! This gets reported, but not the violent and bloody protest in South Korea as Chinese Nationals threw rocks and bricks at protesters. Good reporting Yahoo! Gold Star for you!

Shut the Olympics down forever. The Euro and Asian meets are sufficient and preferred by athletes over this over-expensive circus. What long-term benefit was the Olympics for Sydney? Nothing. All the venues turned out to be trash, unwanted and unnecessary.
