Man in court to face charges in death of Quebec political aide

RIVIERE-DU-LOUP, Que. - A man charged with first-degree murder in the violent death of a political aide has arrived at a Quebec courthouse.

Francis Proulx is expected to face additional charges this afternoon in the abduction and killing of Nancy Michaud, an aide to a prominent provincial cabinet minister. The 29-year-old Proulx lived around the corner from Michaud in the small village of Riviere-Ouelle, northeast of Quebec City.

Police say Proulx could face charges of kidnapping, confinement and robbery when he appears in a Riviere-du-Loup court.

Investigators believe the 37-year-old Michaud was abducted from her home in the middle of the night as her children slept.

The slaying of the popular community volunteer has rocked citizens the picturesque town of 1,200.
