Three Canadian boats qualify for Olympics at rowing qualifier in Poland

POZNAN, Poland - Three more Canadian boats have qualified for the Beijing Games.

The women's eight, men's pair and lightweight men's double booked their tickets to the Olympics on the final day of a rowing qualification regatta.

The women's team finished first in six minutes 15.37 seconds, just ahead of the Netherlands, who grabbed the other Olympic spot.

In the men's pair, Scott Frandsen of Kelowna, B.C. and Dave Calder of Victoria won in 6:44.28, with Italy picking up the second spot.

In the lightweight men's double, Douglas Vandor of Dewittville, Que., and Cameron Sylvester of Caledon, Ont., claimed the third and final Olympic spot in 6:30.37, behind New Zealand and Portugal.

Canada's men's four and men's quad boats did not qualify. Canada now has boats in eight events at the Games.
