MIAMI - Tropical Storm Bertha continues to speed across the Atlantic Ocean.

At 11 a.m. EDT, Bertha was about 885 nautical miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. It is expected to be about halfway between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles by tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 80 km-h with some higher gusting. The storm could gradually strengthen by Sunday.

It's still too early to say if or where Bertha will hit land.

The first named storm this year, Arthur, formed in the Atlantic the day before the season officially started June 1 and soaked the Yucatan Peninsula.
