VANCOUVER, Wash. - Prosecutors say an Amboy, Wash., man who fled to Canada with his wife and children amid sex abuse allegations last year should serve nearly 10 years in prison.

James Spady, 41, pleaded guilty to first-degree child rape and second-degree custodial interference in Clark County Superior Court on Monday. Deputy Prosecutor Tonya Riddell says she'll recommend a sentence of nine years and two months - near the middle of the range called for in Washington state guidelines.

Spady and his wife fled with their four children last fall, the same day a court commissioner ruled that Spady could no longer live with his family in light of allegations that he had sexually abused a young female relative who was not one of his children. They were captured in Saskatchewan after two weeks on the run.

Spady's sentencing is set for Sept. 8.
