CALGARY - A solar-powered car from Michigan State University was the first to roll across a Calgary finish line, snagging the top spot in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge.
The 4,000-kilometre solar car race began July 13 in Plano, Texas. The victory marks the fifth time Michigan State has taken the title in the past nine years.
A car from the University of Waterloo, which started the day in fourth place, was the second to reach the final destination, but official results hadn't yet been calculated.
The car run by Germany's FH Bochum was the third to cross the finish line.
Twenty-five teams from the U.S., Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom took part in the race.
