OTTAWA - Anti-poverty activists say only one of the five main federal party leaders has failed to produce a plan to combat poverty - Stephen Harper.

Gerry Barr of the Make Poverty History campaign is calling on the prime minister to reveal concrete ways his Conservatives will reduce poverty in the party's platform. Barr notes the Tories are also the only main federal party that has not committed to spending 0.7 per cent of Canada's gross domestic product on foreign aid.

He calls that a "shameful performance."

Aboriginal leaders are also calling on the federal parties to lay out their proposals to improve the quality of life among First Nations people.

Phil Fontaine, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, says too many young people living in aboriginal communities are dealing with poverty issues.

"We live in one of the richest countries in the world, yet there are far too many dark corners of poverty that exist in far too many of our young, growing First Nation communities," Fontaine said.
