VANCOUVER - Tickets went on sale Friday for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.

The sales aren't first come, first serve but will run for five weeks through an online process designed to give would-be spectators ample time to buy them. The process is also supposed to thwart scalpers trying to snap up tickets to the best events before anyone has a chance to even whip out a credit card.

The organizing committee will accept applications for tickets until November 7th.

The applications can be submitted either online or through a paper application.

To buy tickets online applicants must register an account at Vancouver2010.com - and as of Friday morning the site was up and working.

There won't be any decision on who gets which tickets until after the deadline for applications.

If there is more demand for an event than there are seats, a lottery will be held.

People who apply for tickets will be notified in late November or early December if their application is successful.

Around 1,600,000 tickets will be available to the public.
