BOSSASO, Somalia - A Somali government minister says a Pakistani oil worker has been abducted in northern Somalia.

The man worked for Canada-based Africa Oil Corp., said Hassan Osman Alore, Energy and Minerals minister in Puntland.

The region is a hotbed of abductions and piracy off the country's lawless coast.

Alore says security forces have surrounded the abductors.
