RED DEER, Alta. - The Crown says it wants a life sentence for a central Alberta man who posed as a police officer when he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl.
Gerard Baumgarte pleaded guilty earlier this week to six charges stemming from the February attack.
During sentencing arguments Thursday the judge ordered a new psychiatric examination of Baumgarte, 57.
The judge says he expects to hand down his sentence during the week of Dec. 7 in Red Deer.
The girl, who cannot be named, was driving home at about 9:40 p.m. after taking a quick trip to a nearby convenience store in Penhold.
Posing as a police officer, Baumgarte pulled the young driver over in his car, which was equipped with red and blue flashing lights.
