KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Canada's top police officer in Afghanistan says more needs to be done to bring the Afghan National Police force up to par.

Graham Muir, the RCMP's assistant commissioner, says Canadians have to remember that policing is an entirely new skill set for Afghans. He says he expects the recent influx of American soldiers will allow Canadian police to spend more time doing on-the-ground training with their Afghan counterparts.

The progress of ANP training has come in for renewed scrutiny after five British soldiers were killed by one of their ANP trainees earlier this week in Helmand province.

Muir is echoing the Canadian deputy commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force, who is insisting the Helmand incident was an isolated one.

Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay says ISAF is not concerned about the possibility of Taliban fighters infiltrating Afghan security forces.
