CALGARY - Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt says a national round table will look at how to advance the uptake of clean energy in Canada.

Raitt was in Calgary to meet with oil and gas leaders to discuss fossil fuels, with an eye to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent by the 2020 target. She said it makes sense to spend money on research and development now, so the fossil fuel industry can be more competitive in the long run.

There have already been round tables on energy efficiency for communities, on renewable resources such as wind and solar power and on non-fossil fuel research and development.

Raitt said the next round table will involve large industrial users of energy, such as the pulp and paper industry.
