Former WBA light middleweight champ Alcine takes on tough French opponent Canclaux

MONTREAL - Former WBA light middleweight champion Joachim Alcine of Laval, Que., will face tough French opponent Christophe Canclaux for the minor WBO International title on Dec. 5 at the Montreal Casino, promoter GYM announced Friday.

Alcine (31-1) will fight for the second time since he lost his title belt in July, 2008 to Daniel Santos of Puerto Rico. He is currently working out in Florida with trainer Buddy McGirt.

Canclaux (40-2) has won his last 15 matches and is unbeaten since 2005.

Both fighters see a victory leading to a world title bout in 2010.

The co-feature will have cruiserweight Troy Ross of Toronto (22-1), winner of the boxing reality TV show The Contender, against Daniel Bispo (21-22) of Brazil in an eight-round bout. Ross is ranked fifth by the IBF and hopes to fight for a world title next year.

On Saturday night, former IBF super-bantamweight champion Steve Molitor (30-1) of Mississauga, Ont., faces Jose Saez (17-8-4) of Argentina at Casino Rama near Orilla, Ont.
