Home of Burnaby man, 91, invaded 3 times in week

Mon Mar 24, 1:47 PM

VANCOUVER (CBC) - A 91-year-old man in Burnaby, B.C., has been the target of a home invasion for the third time in just one week, police say.

The man, identified only as Tom, was repeatedly assaulted last Monday when an intruder broke into his residence in the 7100 block of Edmonds Street.

Then the same person returned on Saturday and on Sunday, demanding money, Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Alexandra Mulvihill said. Tom was not injured in either of those attacks.

Mulvihill said police are concerned that the senior may be forced to leave his home if the intruder isn't found.

"This man has lived in that home for a very long time,'' Mulvihill said Sunday.

"The indications are that he really doesn't want to leave. This is his home and it doesn't feel right that he has to be forced out of it because somebody continues to break into it and ultimately he'd like to stay there."

Police said the suspect is a man in his mid-fifties, of medium build, with dark hair and dark clothing.

In an interview last week, Tom told CBC News that he thought it would be wise to hand over some of his money after he was "smacked'' by the suspect a couple of times.

After the senior gave him money, the intruder fled the home.

Anyone with any information is asked being asked to contact Burnaby RCMP.
