ST..JOHNS (CBC) - There's been another fire involving a Bombardier snowmobile in Labrador after a teacher had to run away from his machine when it burst into flames.
Jon Garland from Hopedale, Labrador said he pulled his 2006 Expedition 550 over during a trip Tuesday after smelling smoke. Minutes later, the engine compartment burst into flames.
"There was flames popping up through the pull cord. I backed off and about a half a second later the whole front of my skidoo went up in flames and then I ran away. All that remains of my machine is the right running board and half of the right ski," he said.
This is the seventh incident involving a Bombardier Recreational Product snowmobile in Labrador. Three machines exploded in Rigolet over a period of two months, sparking Transport Canada to issue a countrywide warning. There have been other instances of fires and a cracked gas tank.
Transport Canada has issued revised warnings about several models, including the Skandic SWT V-800 Yellow - 2007; Skandic SWT V-800 Yellow - 2008; Skandic SUV 600HO SDI Black - 2008. It has removed the Expedition SUV SDI 600 model which was included in the original advisory.
Garland's machine is not on the warning list.
