MONTREAL (CBC) - A Chicago television cameraman has filed a lawsuit against former media baron Conrad Black, claiming he was injured when Black intentionally ran into him during a media scrum at a courthouse last year.
Camera operator Gary Babbitt of WGN-TV filed the lawsuit on Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court, local media reports said. He is reportedly seeking more than $100,000 in damages.
Babbitt was getting shots of Black in the lobby of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse in Chicago last June 4 when he said Black "walked into and/or shoved" him in the upper body, the suit alleges.
Babbitt said he injured a shoulder joint as a result of the incident, which he claims was "without provocation."
The lawsuit's allegations have not been proven.
Black is currently serving a 78-month jail sentence at a Florida prison, after being found guilty of fraud and obstruction of justice relating to his conduct atop the Hollinger newspaper empire. Black is appealing his conviction.
