CALGARY (CBC) - An in-line skater who was not wearing a helmet and fell in a Calgary park Monday is in hospital in serious condition, said paramedics.
The man suffered head injuries as a result of the fall in Glenmore Park on Monday afternoon, said Calgary Emergency Medical Services.
The accident happened one day after emergency officials credited helmets with preventing serious injuries in a high-speed bicycle crash.
Two cyclists crashed head-on into each other on the Elbow River pathway at 90th Avenue and 24th Street S.W. Sunday afternoon.
"Fortunately, both men were wearing helmets which likely led to the fact that both suffered only minor injuries," said public education officer Paul Lapointe Sunday.
Paramedics took the two men to the Rockyview Hospital.
With the weather warming up, he reminded Calgarians to remember to wear bike helmets, and not ride above posted speed limits on bike paths and city roads.
