Plane flip in water sparks report of Manitoba crash

Fri May 16, 6:09 PM

WINNIPEG (CBC) - A large gust of wind that caused an otter plane to flip over in the water northeast of Lac du Bonnet, Man., had officers rushing to the scene on Friday, thinking the aircraft had crashed.

Around 2 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call that a plane had crashed off of Highway 313.

But when officers arrived, they discoverd the otter plane, belonging to Adventure Air, had landed safely.

"While bearing into shore, on the water, a gust of wind flipped the plane over," Staff Sgt. Glen Reitlo told CBC News.

"The two occupants from Adventure Air had gotten out of the plane and were on top of the floats where they were eventually picked up by civilian boat."

Reitlo said it was very windy in Lac du Bonnet on Friday.
