NEW.BRUNSWICK (CBC) - A P.E.I. man was killed in a single-vehicle accident near Port Elgin, N.B., on Wednesday.

Gerard Patrick Bell, 57, of Charlottetown, died in the crash. Bell's 12-year-old grandson, also from P.E.I., was seriously injured and remains in hospital in Moncton. He was in stable condition Thursday morning.

Police said Bell was trying to pass another vehicle when he lost control of his car. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, said police, and both victims were wearing seatbelts.

The RCMP investigation into the crash is continuing.
