CALGARY (CBC) - A pregnant Ontario woman charged in Alberta's biggest heroin seizure was granted bail on Friday.

The RCMP found about 7.8 kilograms of heroin, worth about $2.3 million, hidden in the false bottoms of three suitcases at the Calgary International Airport on May 14.

Aneelvir Grewal, 18, was arrested along with Bakshish Singh Ghai, 21, after they arrived on a British Airways flight from London. Police said they had left India earlier that day with Calgary as their final destination.

The two Canadian citizens were charged with importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

On Friday, provincial court Judge Jim Ogle allowed Grewal, who is five months pregnant, to be released on $100,000 cash and under strict conditions.

Grewal must live with her parents in Brampton, Ont., and abide by a 24-hour curfew, except for medical emergencies, scheduled medical appointments and meetings with her lawyers.

She must also hand in her passport and have no communication with her co-accused.

The next court appearance for the pair is July 11.
