OTTAWA (CBC) - Ottawa police are looking for a man they allege broke into a Sandy Hill area apartment on Wednesday, killed one cat and threw another off the third-floor balcony.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating Richard Holstein, 24, of Ottawa.
The cat thrown off the balcony is still missing and likely injured, according to Sharon Miko, director of operations at the Ottawa Humane Society.
Holstein is wanted for being unlawfully in a dwelling, causing unnecessary suffering to animals, mischief, theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.
He is described as white, six feet tall, weighing 190 pounds, with blue eyes and short blond hair. He has several tattoos, including on his neck.
Miko said the cat is a short-haired Siamese-tabby mix, white, light brown and grey in colour, and is one year old. She is wearing two collars, a pink, purple and orange one, and a blue flea collar, she said.
Anyone who sees the cat can call the humane society's emergency number, 613-725-1532.
Anyone who has information about Holstein is asked to call Det. Leanne Smith at the Ottawa Police Service, 613-236-1222, ext. 5407, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.
