Melody Davidson is returning to the head coaching job with the Canadian women's hockey team after one year away.
Hockey Canada announced Thursday that the Oyen, Alta., native will be back behind the bench for the next two years, including the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, as of a Hockey Canada news conference set for Wednesday.
Joining Davidson behind the bench will be assistants Peter Smith and Doug Lidster.
"Melody has a proven track record as the head coach of Canada's national women's team, and we are excited she will be stepping back behind the bench for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons,” said Bob Nicholson, president of Hockey Canada.
Davidson coached the women to gold at the 2006 Olympics in Italy, and again at the 2007 world championships in Winnipeg, before moving upstairs as general manager last season.
Peter Smith, of Montreal, took over the team, losing the world championship final to heated rival United States at Harbin, China, this past April.
Canada's women will play in the Four Nations Cup at Lake Placid, N.Y., this November, prepping for the 2009 world's in Finland next April.
