Eye solution could harm users: Health Canada

MONTREAL (CBC) - Health Canada has issued an advisory about an eye solution that may harm people using it.

It says consumers should not use Sandoz Timolol Ophthalmic Solution 0.25 per cent and 0.5 per cent, which is used to treat high fluid pressure within the eye and glaucoma, an eye disease that can lead to blindness.

Possible "adverse events" listed include:

- red eye

- eye irritation

- eyelid inflammation or inflammation of the cornea

- drooping of the upper eyelid

- double vision

- dizziness

- headache

- abnormally slow heartbeat

- very low blood pressure

- shortness of breath

- breathing problems

- cardiac failure

Patients taking the solution should consult their physician immediately for other options to treat their condition and return the product to their pharmacist.

Sandoz Canada Inc. is recalling the product.
