Mounties in the northern Manitoba city had arrested Jeffrey Ray Mallett, 37, late Friday night for public intoxication.

The Cross Lake First Nation resident was found dead in his cell the following day, RCMP said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg.

Officers with several RCMP units have been called in to investigate the death.
