Flood warning issued for Winnipeg River system

Tue Jul 22, 4:19 PM

WINNIPEG (CBC) - The Manitoba government is warning people with property on the Winnipeg River system to secure their docks and protect boats and boathouses against flooding.

High water levels along the Winnipeg River system will cause flooding of low-lying areas, including park facilities and trails, provincial officials said Tuesday.

The section of the Winnipeg River from the Ontario border to Nutimik Lake, in Whiteshell Provincial Park, is about 1.2 to 1.8 metres above normal summer levels.

It's expected to rise a further 30 to 60 centimetres during the next two to three weeks, depending on how much rain the area receives.

Water is also high in the English River system in northwestern Ontario and in the Lake of the Woods and Rainy River watersheds.
