Frank Dancevic, Canada's top-ranked tennis player, was eliminated Tuesday in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.
Dancevic, from Niagara Falls, Ont., was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia in front of a boisterous crowd at the Rexall Centre.
Dancevic, ranked 82nd in the world, was the lone Canadian remaining in the tournament.
Peter Polansky of Thornhill, Ont., bowed out earlier Tuesday, losing 6-2, 6-4 to qualifier Jesse Levine of the United States.
"He was returning well," Polansky said. "I just could not hold my serve."
Levine, who was born in Ottawa but relocated to Florida as an adolescent, will play Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal of Spain on Wednesday.
"He is a great player and I always watch him on TV," Levine said. "It will be kind of cool to play him."
Roddick wins, Canas loses
Andy Roddick of the U.S. prevailed 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-3 over Nicolas Mahut of France in a match twice interrupted by rain.
Roddick, seeded sixth, never lost serve and closed it out with consecutive aces, finishing the match with 18.
"I thought I moved well," said Roddick, who won the Rogers Cup in 2003.
"Most importantly, I felt good physically. All in all, I think it was a good match."
Robin Soderling of Sweden earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Argentina's Guillermo Canas, who won the tournament in 2002.
Tommy Haas of Germany cruised by Spaniard Carlos Moya 6-3, 6-2, and will meet fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia - one of eight competitors to receive a bye through the first round.
Gilles Simon's reward for easily eliminating American teenager Donald Young 6-1, 6-3 is a Grandstand showdown with top-seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland on Wednesday.
