Wed Nov 4, 6:04 PM

MONTREAL (CBC) - Officials in the Montérégie say a 42-year-old woman is the first person in the region south of Montreal to die of complications from swine flu since the second wave of H1N1 infections began.

The woman, who died Tuesday night, was in good health but had mild asthma, officials said.

Since Aug. 30, officials in the Montérégie said they have reported 132 hospitalizations due to the H1N1 virus, including 13 severe cases.

During the first wave of the flu last spring, the region reported 57 cases needing hospital care, including 14 severe cases and three deaths.

Tuesdays death is the third related to swine flu in Quebec since September.
