La Ronge Mounties arrest assault suspect

Sat Nov 21, 6:49 PM

SASKATCHEWAN (CBC) - The La Ronge man wanted by police in connection with two serious attacks is in custody, RCMP reported late Saturday afternoon.

Matthew Sandy Allan Charles, 23, will be in court on Monday morning to answer to a number of charges.

The most recent allegations were reported to police on Wednesday.

Police said on that morning a man entered a La Ronge home and attacked a 37-year-old woman using what was described as a "bladed weapon." Officers did not have additional details on that incident, but said the woman was injured in the attack.

Charles, who is also known locally as "Chew," will also be in court on charges stemming from a separate incident in October.

Police said the Oct. 27 incident involved a different woman and led to a sexual assault charge.

RCMP said Charles would remain in custody for now. If Crown prosecutors determine he should continue to be held as the court case proceeds, there would have to be a bail hearing.
