WINNIPEG (CBC) - Production on a new Hollywood film starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz has been suspended in Spain after bulls being used on-set escaped and injured two people.

Rehearsals for the forthcoming 2010 action-comedy Knight & Day began recently in Cadiz, in southwestern Spain. Cruise and Diaz are not slated to join the set until next weekend, after wrapping up production in Austria.

Filming on the movie had been scheduled to begin on Monday, but "nothing will be filmed in Cadiz until we have a new plan that guarantees the safety of local residents," according to spokesman Ignacio Romani, representing the local government.

The film's crew had been rehearsing a scene that re-enacts Spain's famed running of the bulls, which take place each July in Pamplona.

According to local reports, seven animals broke free from their location and ran through the neighbourhood's narrow streets, injuring two women. The bulls ended up at a nearby beach, where they were captured.

Film crew member Jose Luis Escolar told Spanish reporters he doesn't yet know how the animals were able to escape.
