Firebombers apologize to Edmonton homeowners

Tue Jul 22, 12:58 PM

EDMONTON (CBC) - The victims of a firebombing in Edmonton earlier this month received a surprise in the mail: A note of apology from those who lobbed a Molotov cocktail at their home.

Andrea Domes said the apology arrived a few days after her family’s Mill Woods townhouse was attacked. The authors of the handwritten note said they were sorry for causing damage to her home, and reassured that it was an "accident."

The anonymous note also said not to worry, that the home wouldn't be firebombed again.

"We had a hard time sleeping at night the next few nights, just wondering why it happened to us and if it was going to happen again," Domes said.

"And it just kind of put our minds at ease that we weren't a target."

Police are now analyzing the handwriting and looking for fingerprints on the note.

There have been nine firebomb attacks on homes and one car within a small area of the city since March, police said. Six of those occurred within the past six months.

The most recent attack was last Sunday when three Molotov cocktails were thrown at a home, causing $100,000 in damage to the front of the house and its roof.

Police believe the attacks all stem from a feud between three different groups of teenagers.
