ATHENS, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Former Inter Milan and Valencia coach Hector Cuper has been appointed head coach of Aris Salonika, the Greek club said on Tuesday.

Cuper, 53, has agreed a one-year contract and replaces outgoing coach Iomar Mazihno, who has been shown the door following an indifferent start to the season.

"Aris announces the agreement with Hector Raul Cuper in the position of head coach for one year," read a brief statement on the Aris website, www.arisfc.gr.

Cuper's last coaching job was with the Georgian national team but the Argentine coach failed to win a single match during the country's failed 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign and his contract, which was due to expire in December, was not renewed.

Cuper is best remembered for his spell at Valencia from 1999-2001 when he guided the Spanish side to successive Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001.

Aris currently lie fourth in the 16-team Greek Super League with 14 points from nine games.
