Sandbanks Provincial Park hits capacity, traffic rerouted

Sandbanks Provincial Park — a hot spot for vacationers — has closed its gates to the public after reaching capacity, officials say.

On Sunday afternoon, police officers on the scene were working to divert traffic from the area south of Belleville, Ont. CBC News has received reports of vehicles lined up for up to 10 kilometres.

The park is located about two and a half hours east of Toronto.

The area in Prince Edward County is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, where people can enjoy the picturesque natural views along the northern shores of Lake Ontario. Thousands of cottagers, campers and beachgoers flock to the area for soft, sandy beaches, clear, blue waters and beautiful sights and sounds.
