'Scat Rat' race car stolen from Lazer Autobody in Saskatoon

A set of hot wheels is now hot.

The Scat Rat, a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass race car, was stolen in Saskatoon over the weekend and its owner is now offering a $10,000 reward for tips leading to its return.

The purple car, with a rat painted on the side, was stolen from Lazer Autobody. The shop's owner, Bob Heroux, hopes the reward will help locate the car, which has been in his family for 35 years.

"This car means more to me than anything," he said.

He believes the car was targeted. He just had a new engine, worth $20,000, installed earlier this month.

"I could care less if I ever get the motor back," he said. "I just want my car back. That's all."

Bob's son, Devin, said a surveillance video from a nearby gas station showed a dark-coloured Dodge truck pulling a trailer that contained the car.The trailer was later found empty near Vanscoy, Sask., about 27 kilometres south-west of Saskatoon.

Saskatoon police are investigating the theft.
