Sharing the View travelling art show comes to Canning

CBC Nova Scotia's Information Morning is on the road this morning in Canning with its fifth annual Sharing the View travelling art show.

The theme for this year is Nova Scotia realism and last night, people at the Canning District Lions Club got a chance to see the 12 paintings that will make up this year's fundraising calendar.

Information Morning host Don Connolly spoke to the gathering last evening and introduced the marquee artist from the area, Susan Gibson Garvey. Her painting, called Carousel, is one of the 12 that will be reproduced in a 2015 fine art calendar to be sold in support of Feed Nova Scotia.

The Sharing the View art show will travel to one more community — Arisaig — on Oct. 30. The artwork will be auctioned off online, starting on Nov. 7. Sales of the calendar will start Nov. 8 at Sobeys stores across Nova Scotia.

"Sharing the View is a truly special project," said Nick Jennery, the executive director of Feed Nova Scotia.

"Thousands of Nova Scotians have the 2014 calendar hanging on their wall at this moment; thousands of Nova Scotians have food and comfort in their lives because of that. We're so incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to bring it to life again this year."

In the four years it has existed, Sharing the View has raised more than $360,000 for Feed Nova Scotia. Organizers hope this final project will be the biggest success so far.
