Signs of spring emerge despite wintery weather

Some Islanders are preparing for warmer weather, despite another blustery, snowy day.

Spring is already making an appearance at Van Kampen's Greenhouse in Charlottetown.

"We're absolutely seeing some blooms come out of a lot of plants. We're doing a lot of work to get things started for spring. We're expecting a lot of business come later spring when the ground is thawed out," said Peter Meijer, Van Kampen's sales manager.

And the warm greenhouse environment can be like a little escape for employees as well.

"It's almost like a tropical vacation at times," said Meijer.

At All About Golf, some are sharpening their game for spring.

"Just practising because it's snowing out, so can't really go to the golf course and just trying to get better for the summer," said Zack Willis.

"I don't know if we'll be at the golf course too soon."

And, it's not beach time yet, but some Islanders are taking a dip anyway.

"Trying to get away from winter," said Avery Hillstrom. "I thought it would be a fun way to commemorate my 21st birthday."

Stores are also ready for spring with patio furniture and BBQs already on display.

"There's a lot more snow then most years. It still comes in early before people are really ready to take a patio set home and put it on the deck, but still it gets that thought in their mind that better days are ahead weather wise," said Jeff Crane, manager at Canadian Tire.
