The Stanley Cup and pro hockey's other major trophies made a special appearance on the Rideau Canal Thursday, as hundreds of minor hockey players got a chance to escort the historic awards.
Three hundred players from the Nepean Minor Hockey Association pushed the trophies one kilometre up the canal to the Ottawa Convention Centre as more than a thousand fans cheered them on.
Sharks coach Sean Pollard, whose son is on the team, said it was a dream opportunity for everyone.
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for myself, still loving the dream of hockey, and all the kids, and my little fellow," said Pollard. "Having the Stanley Cup here you get that little tingle, shiver up your spine. It's every kids dream... and adults."
Six-year-old Gabe Kinsbury got to sit with the Cup after his name was drawn. Also a member of the Sharks team, he said it was good to sit "with the most valuable trophy."
All the NHL trophies will be at the Convention Centre until Saturday, where fans can have their picture taken with them.
