Stolen truck leads to car chase in Gatineau area

Gatineau police are looking for a suspect who led them on a chase with a stolen truck on Friday.

They said they got a call about a stolen truck from a business in the Gatineau sector around 9:30 a.m.

An employee called police again later in the morning, saying they had spotted the stolen truck on Highway 50 with two people inside.

Police said they tracked the truck down in the Buckingham sector. A chase began just after 11:30 a.m. after the driver didn’t stop at the intersection of Lepine and Buckingham avenues.

The driver, who was now alone in the truck, headed west on Highway 50 toward Gatineau, so police said they contacted the Surete du Quebec.

Two Gatineau police spike belts didn’t slow down the truck, but they said a third belt laid by provincial police appeared to puncture one of its tires.

The driver didn’t stop and kept driving quickly with a flat tire, leaving a trail of smoke behind.

Gatineau police said they abandoned the chase as the truck headed towards Lorrain Boulevard, but it was later found on Route 366 in Val-des-Monts.

The driver was seen fleeing the scene on foot but MRC des Collines police, Surete du Quebec and Gatineau police couldn’t find him and are still looking.

No suspect description was immediately available.
