Stolen vehicles from out East ending up in Alberta

Stolen vehicles from Eastern Canada are showing up in Alberta, says the Insurance Bureau of Canada's Rick Dubin.

Vehicles stolen in Eastern Canada are making their way to Alberta, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

The agency just released a new tally of which cars and trucks are mostly likely to be targeted, which is topped by the Honda Civic. However, four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive trucks are high on the list.

Insurance Bureau spokesperson Rick Dubin says many of the models are being stolen in Quebec and Eastern Canada and, instead of being shipped overseas, are being brought out West to Alberta.

"There is a real demand for this particular vehicle and that’s why we’re suggesting that organized crime are moving them out west and selling them to unsuspecting consumers," he said.

Dubin says the thieves are replacing Vehicle Identification Number plates in Ford F-250s and F-350s.
